When people think of Habitat for Humanity, they often picture the construction of new homes, hammers swinging, and the joy of families stepping into their very own front door for the first time. While housing is at the core of our mission, Fayette County Habitat for Humanity is committed to making a difference in the community in many other ways. From local landmarks to public spaces, we’re always working to enhance the places where we live, work, and gather—even when we’re not building homes.
Improving the Biergarten at the Fayette County Fairgrounds One of our recent community projects involved replacing the siding at the Biergarten at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. This beloved spot is the hub of activity during the Fayette County Fair, and we were honored to help ensure that it remains a beautiful, safe gathering place for years to come. With the help of dedicated volunteers, we gave the Biergarten a much-needed facelift, restoring its charm and keeping this local treasure in great shape for future celebrations.
The impact of this project goes beyond just aesthetics—it’s about preserving a space that brings people together, strengthens community bonds, and celebrates our shared culture and traditions.

Painting the Schulenburg Boys and Girls Club
In addition to maintaining community landmarks, Fayette County Habitat for Humanity also focuses on spaces that empower our youth. Recently, we had the privilege of painting the Schulenburg Boys and Girls Club. A fresh coat of paint has revitalized the building, making it a more welcoming and inspiring place for the children who attend. This project was about more than just improving the look of the facility—it was about creating a vibrant environment where kids can feel safe, valued, and excited to learn and grow.
Investing in spaces like the Boys and Girls Club is just one way we support the next generation, helping to build a stronger, more supportive community for everyone.

Maintaining the Highway Rest Stop on Highway 77
Our commitment to the community even extends to the highways that connect us. For years, Fayette County Habitat for Humanity has taken on the responsibility of maintaining the highway rest stop on Highway 77, just north of 2436. This rest stop provides travelers with a clean, welcoming space to take a break, stretch their legs, and safely continue their journey.
By keeping the rest stop in great condition, we’re not just helping visitors, but also showing pride in our local community. This seemingly small effort makes a big difference, enhancing the experience of all who pass through our region.

Constantly Striving to Improve Our Community
At Fayette County Habitat for Humanity, our work doesn’t stop with building homes. Whether we’re replacing siding, painting community centers, or maintaining public spaces, we’re always striving to improve the community in ways that go beyond housing. These projects are an extension of our mission: to create a better, more connected, and vibrant place for everyone to live.
We believe that every action, no matter how small, can have a lasting impact. From the young people who enjoy the freshly painted Boys and Girls Club to the travelers who rest comfortably at the Highway 77 stop, our community benefits when we come together to make it a better place.
